Please read this carefully. By using What Would the Stoics Do (the "App"), you agree to it.

1. What this App is — and is not

What Would the Stoics Do offers reflective, philosophical, and educational content inspired by Stoic philosophy, including AI-generated responses written in a Stoic voice, public-domain texts, journaling prompts, and daily reflections.

The App is for general interest, reflection, and self-improvement only. It is not and does not provide:

  • medical, psychological, psychiatric, or mental-health advice, diagnosis, or treatment;
  • legal, financial, tax, or professional advice of any kind;
  • a substitute for a qualified doctor, therapist, counsellor, lawyer, or other professional;
  • a therapeutic, crisis, or emergency service.

No doctor–patient, therapist–client, lawyer–client, or other professional relationship is created by using the App.

It is not a wellness, mental-health, therapy, counselling, or telehealth service. It is not suitable for, or intended for use by, anyone experiencing severe or enduring mental-health conditions, suicidal thoughts, thoughts of self-harm or harming others, abuse, substance withdrawal, an eating disorder, or any medical emergency. If any of that may apply to you, please use the professional resources in section 2 instead of this App.

2. Not a crisis service — get real help

The App cannot help in an emergency and is not designed for use in any crisis. If you are thinking about suicide, considering harming yourself or others, experiencing abuse, or otherwise in danger or severe distress:

  • Call your local emergency number immediately. In Finland and across the EU, dial 112.

Crisis and mental-health helplines by market:

  • Finland: Mental Health Crisis Line (Kriisipuhelin) 09 2525 0111.
  • United States: Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, call or text 988.
  • United Kingdom: Samaritans 116 123.
  • Brazil: Centro de Valorização da Vida (CVV) 188.
  • France: national suicide-prevention line 3114.
  • Germany: Telefonseelsorge 0800 111 0 111.
  • Anywhere else: international directory of helplines at findahelpline.com.

Do not rely on the App, or wait for an AI response, in an emergency.

3. AI-generated content has limits

Responses are produced by an artificial-intelligence language model. Although answers are grounded in real Stoic source texts, AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, or inappropriate for your situation, and may misattribute or misquote. Always use your own judgement and consult a qualified professional before acting on anything the App tells you. You are solely responsible for any decisions you make.

4. No guarantees

We make no guarantee that the App will improve your wellbeing, resolve any problem, or produce any particular result. Philosophy is offered for reflection, not as a promised outcome.

5. Public-domain and third-party content

Texts in the Library are historical public-domain works provided for educational purposes; translations and interpretations vary. Outbound links (e.g. the Shop) lead to third-party sites we do not control and are not responsible for.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, and subject to your mandatory statutory rights as a consumer, we are not liable for any loss or harm arising from your reliance on the App or its content. See the full limitation of liability in our Terms of Service.

7. Age

The App is intended for users aged 16 and over. It is not designed for, or directed at, younger users or anyone unable to evaluate philosophical content critically.

8. Your acknowledgement and acceptance of risk

By using the App you acknowledge and agree that: it offers philosophy for reflection, not professional care; AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable, and you rely on it entirely at your own discretion and risk; the App may not be appropriate for everyone or for every situation; and you alone are responsible for your decisions and for seeking qualified professional help where needed. If you do not accept these limits, please do not use the App.
